14 Feb.

16 Feb.
17 Feb.
- Neuschwanstein-"Today we went to Neuschwanstein, which is the big
castle about two hours from Munich, you see in all the pictures. When we
left the sun was shining, though it was cold. By the time we got to
Füssen it was snowing. I was kind of bummed at first, but I realize
now it was better for two reasons...it wasn't rain and it looked pretty on
the trees and the castle. We had to walk up the hill to get there, but it
was fun. The castle was built by Barvarian King Ludwig II...we got an
English tour, which was a pleasant surprise. After the tour, we walked
down a snow covered path to a bridge for the perfect Kodak moment."
18 Feb.
- Train to Salzburg
"The streets with the shops are so cute. No
cars-but narrower than downtown crossing.(In Boston) Just like the pictures of European cities. They had all
the fancy medieval looking signs and what do you think we found among
them...McDonalds. We decided not to eat there-ever!
- University Church
- St. Peter's Church and Cemetery
- Palace Garden's
- Dom(a really big church)
- Steps leading up to a monastery where there was a nice view of the city.
"I like traveling in warmer weather better, it's
nicer to walk around-though we've been lucky, the sun has been shining, no
rain-that's not no matter what time of year you travel."19
Feb..
- Hohensalzburg
Fortress-"The giant fortress that over looks the
city we went up in the cable car and walked around a bit. Then we bought
tickets for the tour in English, which also included the museum. It was
well worth it...The fortress was built by the Arch Bishop in the 11th
century. Various Arch Bishops added on as necessary. One had a turnip on
his coat of arms, no one knows why a turnip, but he put it on everything he
had built in the fortress. It seems very silly. We got to see a torture
chamber too. The only thing that actually belonged in the fortress was the
dungeon, the rest of the stuff came from a castle 10 km away. It was neat
anyway. The fortress is the largest in Southern Europe. It was occupied by
Napoleon, who removed all the furniture from the staterooms. There was
though, a very funny ceramic stove. They use ceramic stoves in Southern
Europe instead of fire places. The guide to Neuschwanstein said they were
more efficient than fireplaces because they use less fuel(wood etc.) and
you don't tend to lose any heat up the chimney. After the tour we walked
around a bit on the mountain...we took the lift down."
- Mozart's
Birthplace
- Trinity Church
John noted: "It will be hard to drink beer when we

" Which came first, the fact the English speakers are
too lazy to learn another language so the others learned it out of
necessity, or did the others learn English, so the English speakers said
'why bother.' Blame it on rock 'n' roll."
23 Feb.
And yet another city to learn the U-Bahn
- Keiser Wilhelm-Gedachtn-Kirch-Keiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
- Victory Column-"We climbed to the top for a view
of the city. It seems every city we go to we have to climb a lot of steps
for a great view. Inside there was a little room that gave the history of
the column and how the reliefs where taken by the French and later returned
during WWII. The French and the British both raised flags there."
- Brandenburg
Gate
- Museum at
Checkpoint Charlie-"Wow! It is a peace museum
now with stories about people who used peaceful means to get what they
wanted--->Like Ganhdi and MLK. They also showed a clip of 'Unbearable
Lightness of Being' with Daniel Day Lewis and said it accurately depicted
the day Prague was invaded. There was also a memorial and stories of
successful and unsuccessful escapes over the wall. overall it was a very
moving experience."

west, But it can't separate the air. Well maybe a really big wall."
25 Feb.
- Eastern Berlin-"Eastern Berlin is rather run
down and old looking, though they are fixing some things up. Still among
the decrepidations(Is that a real word?)are
some beautiful old buildings, the state Library, The State Opera House, the
Princes University, some museums and some churches.
- Berlin Dom-"Of all the churches we've been in
this was the biggest. Most of it was quit beautiful. There was the usual
reliefs n the wall and a few paintings etc, not too overdone. There was a
gorgeous pipe organ. Then there was the alter. It was a real eye sore.
All gold with the Apostles behind it. I mean, God forgive me for saying so
, it was ugly!"
- Marx Ingalls Platz

them.
- New Rathaus-Where JFK said, "Ich bin ein Berliner." We found a bakery across the street and had one(a
Berliner)It's really just a Bavarian cream doughnut
with white frosting or powder on top."

26 Feb.
- Charlottenburg Palace-"It's a huge summer
palace built by king Frederick for his second wife, Sophia...Though much of
it was destroyed during WWII, they did a good job restoring it. everything
was beautiful, though it was a bit much for me, though it was still nice to
look at."
- Berlin
Olympic Stadium
27 Feb.
- ICE Train from Zoo Station back to Munich
