The main reason for our trip was to attend the wedding of our friend Christina to a very nice man named Peter.
Sept 26
We flew Aer Lingus into Shannon Airport. From there we drove to Galway-I drove first. To hear the sound track of our trip, just play "Breakfast at Tiffanys" By the Rembrants and "How Bizzare" By OMC over and over again, 'cause that is all they played on the radio. Drving on te opposite side of the road was a challege at first, but we soon got used to it. The first round about was scary.
We found a cute little B& B in Rossaveal called Heron's. It was family owned and they brought us into the kitchen for tea.
We took the Aran Seabird to Inishmor. When you get off the boat, there are all kinds of people there to offer you a unique tourist experience. We took a donkey cart ride, which was a lot of fun.
The driver was difficult to understand, but we went to a historical site called An Cloigtheach, which was a well in a hill. We also visited a very old cemetary.
Upon our return to the mainland, we took a ride to a little pub. We had the most amazing salmon ever! It was very dark getting back to the B&B but somehow we found our way, I think we took a left at a clump of grass.
Sept 27
We drove to Dromahiar in Co. Leitrim for the wedding. Dromahair is a very small village with a Post office, general store, 2 hotels, a pub and a couple little shops.Once we figure out how to use the pay phone, Christina met us and checked us into the Standford B&B. We then set off the explore the area. We visited Yeat's Gravesite and Park's Castle.
When we stopped oat one of the Lay-Bys (That's Irish for Rest stop) to take a pictures, I twisted my ankle jumping off a wall. (I did the same thing in college.) I decided not to test the Irish Health Care System and "tough it out".
That night we attended the rehearsal dinner at Yeats Tavern.
Sept 28
The wedding was at St. Mary's in Killennummery, with the reception at Markree in Collooney, CO. Sligo. It was an all day affair. For dinner I had the best salmon I have ever tasted.(eveen better than the other best salmon.) It was very dark when we drove back to the B&B. We took Christina's cousin, who fortunatley knew how to get back, because, I really don't think we could have found it without her. It was pitch black out, as we drove out ot the castle. The headlights hit a bunch of glowing eyes close to the ground...sheep. I also almost hit a cow, standing in the middle of the road munching on shrubbery.
Sept 29
We drove to Dublin making a stop at Newgrange in CO. Meath. That was quit amazing.
We arrived in Dublin after a big football game. We ended up staying at Kelly's on South Great George St., the same place Vicki and I stayed at a few years earlier.
Sept 30-Oct 2
We spent the next three days in Dublin.
That night we met the boys again for dinner and drinks. We wnet ot Pachino's on Suffolk St., The Shack on East Essesx St., and Fitzsimons bar.
The last day in Dublin, Mary Ann went ot meet her penpal, but I stayed in Dublin. I visited The National Museum of Ireland.
Later I took my obligitory trip to Windmill Lane Studios. There was new graffiti.
"Blinded you lost your way,
come to Windmill Lane,
like a star exploding in the night,
fillin' up the city with Broadway light,
an angel in devil's shoes, called MacPhisto."
