Elder Hostel is a membership organization for people over 50. Each member is allowd one non member guest. My parents took my sister and me.

June 20

• I flew into Oakland and met my friends Alora and Kira.

  June 21

• Breakfast at Oakland Market for "...yummy crabcakes with eggs benedict and hollandase sauce."
• Kira and I walked around China Town
• I met may parents and my sister at the airport.

  June 22

• Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield. "I learned some intersting facts-They have 50 flavors but one is not put in the mixed bag, jalipino, because it is made from real oil which would contaminate other flavors. We got to taste the Harry Potter ones-The Vomit one is made from vinegar and salt."
  
• Arrived in Truckee where we stayed at the Best Western.

  June 23

• Elder Hostel program begins-"Jen and I are the youngest, but people are really nice."
• Hike around Emerald Bay. "It was fun except when it rained, then hailed, but we got to watch a nice thunder storm across the lake."
  
  "I'm really enjoying trhe people on the trip. They are really nice and don't treat Jen and I like kids." "When we got back, Jen and I went in the jacuzzi, which felt good."

  June 24
  I think the thin air went to my head...I wrote this poem in my journal:

  
  
• Hiked the Garcio Trial in Nevada. "We learned a lot. Jeffery Pine has gentle pine cones you can roll in hand. Ponderosa Pine has prickly red pine needles...the bark is red inside. White pine has flat needles." "The best part of the was when we found flush toilets at the end of the hike."
  
• "Jen and I walked down to 7-Eleven-Oh thank heaven-Diet Coke!"

  June 25

• Kayaking on Lake Tahoe. We kayaked to white sand beach next to Thunderbird Lodge.
  
• Swam in Lake Tahoe. "...me, Jen and Dad braved the water. It was f*#@ing cold, so I got out fast, but I did it just so I could say I swam in Lake Tahoe."
• Took the bus to downtown Truckee where we visited the The Old Jail House.
  

  June 26

• Donner Museum-"They showed us a film about the Donner Party and how they got stuck and had to resort to cannibalism."
  
• Hiking on the "Sage something trail...which was mostly flat with lots and lots of flowers."
  

  June 27

• "The closing 'brunch' wsa nice, but I will miss everyone. They were all wonderful. Even as we drove off, I wanted to be hiking.
• Stopped at Donner Pass for photographs
• Arrived in San Francisco.
  
• Golden Gate Bridge
• Walked down Lombard Street
• Coit Tower
• Fisherman's Wharf
• Lunch at Pompei's Grotto-for clam chowder in sour dough bread bowls.
• Pier 39-to see the sealions.
• Ghirardelli Square for ice cream
  

  June 28

• Met Alora and went to her place in Petaluma. Apparently we watched a lot of Sex and the City because the rest of the journal is a drinking game we wrote and quotes.

• Returned to LA
