• Drove to Rochester were we stayed 2 nights with Karies' friend Lisa.

• Niagra Falls-We did the Cave of the Winds Tour

  July 17
  We had to atop for directions in Ontario and were given the following instructions by the police officer:
  "Don't litter, wear your seatbelt and the Red Sox are not going to win the penent."

• Arrived in Chicago. We stayed with our friend Marcia.
• Dinner at Tuscany near Wrigley Field.

  July 18

• Art Insititute of Chicago
• Shopped near Wrigley field. There was a cool shop called Strange Cargo
• Lunch at Caesar's Restaurant
• We got oaround on the L

  July 19

• Forever Knight Party with the Chicago Fen.
• Boatride around Chicago and out onto the lake.
• Shopping on Michigan Ave.
• Lunch at Rock Botton Brewery
  "If it wasn't so cold in winter, I might consider this city as an alternative." "I do like Chicago and I will go back."

  July 21

• After going through much construction, we left chicago behind us, with a stop in Rockford to visit our friend, Tina for lunch.
• In Wisconson we stopped at Ehlenbach's Cheese Chalet
• Crossed over the Mississippi
• Stopped in Austin, MN which is the home of Spam.

  July 22

• Found a Spam gift shop, then hit the road through South Minnisota and South Dakota.
  "We hit the road and drove and saw lots of corn fields." "...miles and miles of rolling hills."We tracked the Wall Drug signs along the way.
• Wall Drug-"...bought a whole bunch of uselss stuff we don't need, but it was fun anyway."

  July 23

• Badlands-"...hard to describe but breathtaking."
  
• Black Hills
• Mount Rushmore-"...Much smaller than expected."
• Crazy Horse Monument-"...Under construction but has a face and was far more interesting than Mount Rushmore. We even got to see a blasting."
• Devil's Tower
  
  "...of everything we saw I found Mount Rushmore the most disappointing." "Then we drove through the middle of nowhere. Almost nothing on to the left and absolutely nothing on the right."

  July 24
  "Today we drove through nothing and nowhere to get to somewhere on the edge of nowhere."

• Bighorn Mountains
• Stopped in a little town called Buffalo, Wyoming-It was just a cute little town, with some nice shops and nice people.
• Thermopolis Hot Springs in Wyoming
  
• Cody, Wyoming-We went shopping, ate dinner at a Saloon and played miniture golf.

  July 25

• Drove on the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway
• Through Shashone National Park
• Stopped in Cooke City, MT
• To the North Entrance of Yellowstone Park
  In Yellowstone we visited Gyser Basin, Mammoth Hotsprings, we saw a moose, and Old Faithful. We left through the heavily under construction East Entrance, then back to Cody.

  July 26

• Drove through Montana through Gallitan Park
• We had lunch at the Half Moon Saloon in the Park.
• Then we drove through Idaho. "Just farms for hours."
• Dinner at a Mexican Restaurant in and Indian Reservation. (I had a split peach chim-chunga for dessert, which was yummy.)
• Ended the day in Twin Falls, ID
  Noted at the top on the page in the journal: "We have peed in 14 states in 14 days."

  July 27

• "Today we drove. Left the nothing farmland of Idaho to the desert of Nevada, the worst nothingness thus far!"
• "At 6pm Pacific time we passed into California."
• We had dinner in Truckee
• We stayed in Vacaville
  "Things I've learned:
  The best surprises are the small and least expected things."
  "Nothing can be hynotizing."

  July 28

• Dinner atLucas Wharf in Bodega Bay

• Fisherman's Wharf
• Lunch at Pompei's Grotto-for clam chowder in sour dough bread bowls.
• Ghirardelli Square
• Sushi with Alora atSakura in Santa Rosa

• Carmel to visit Kira, April and Denise
• Japanese food for dinner

• Santa Barbara for lunch at the Natural Cafe on State Street
• Made it to LA to check out my new place.
• Stayed with our friend Leslie in San Diego
